I got a DUI in California in July of 2009 and they took away my license. I recently just got married and my husband is in the airforce so we had to move to Louisiana. I was wondering if I am able to get a Louisiana license even though I have a DUI in California. Also my last name is now changed so would they catch it I get my license back this July but I need to be able to drive to store for groceries ect. instead of walking and I do not even know the area! We are looking into a new car but I dont want to get a new car if I am going to be driving without my license and get it impounded. Please help if you have any advice (legally or bending the laws a lil) on what I can do. Thanks!!!

The maximum sentence for a first violation of VC 23153 is three years in prison. The minimum is 5 days in jail as a condition of probation. (VC 23554 23556.) The maximum sentence for a violation of VC 23153 with a prior DUI is also three years in prison but the minimum is 120 days in jail as a condition of probation. (VC 23560 23562.) There are also fines and mandatory license suspensions.

I was convicted of DUI (first offense no one hurt no property damage) in October 1999 in Alabama. I understand it is a misdemeanor… however I am trying to determine if it is considered a FIRST DEGREE or SECOND DEGREE misdemeanor.

And yes I know I totally screwed up and realize this will end up being very expensive and I will NEVER drink and drive again however I just don’t want to loose my license.
